Firearms Certification

All officers carrying authorized firearms should be required to meet specific qualifications, as determined by the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. Firearms training should adhere to modern principles of instruction and should focus on learning objectives rather than teaching objectives. Officers should know the skills, be able to describe how they are performed, and be able to perform them effectively in a realistic, high-stress situation. These skills must be retained so that officers may use them on the job post-training.

Defensive Tactics / Ground Fighting

Control tactics are the most frequently used skills across all categories, and when executed effectively, they lead to ground control. Proper use of these two skill categories can often prevent a use-of-force incident from escalating to a higher level of force. This course offers officers the required techniques as mandated by the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA).
